Norse-Inspired Cyberpunk
The Aesir. The Vanir. The Jotun. War has long passed them by, but immortals can hold a grudge. Forever at one another’s throats, none ever gains an advantage over the others. Frustrated but safe in their arcologies and sky palaces, the immortals lash out at one another through scheming, espionage, and dirty tricks. Working through proxies, they continue their petty feuds in the streets and back alleys of the megacity of New Midgard. They recruit mortals drawn to fame and fortune seeking a seat in one of the great halls—people willing to risk much to fulfill a great destiny like the Vikings of old—or die trying.
Nine Worlds is a Savage Worlds setting that blends Norse Mythology with a gritty cyberpunk twist.
The Aesir, Vanir, and Jotun are immortals not due to deific powers but through the miraculous wonders of science, technology, and magic. These god-like beings are survivors of a war between corporations that ended in an uncomfortable stalemate. Now, they inhabit sanctuaries well removed from the daily grind of New Midgard, the mortal megacity, while maneuvering their pawns from the shadows. Each faction seeks an advantage over the others as they actively push the world inch by inch towards Ragnarok and a return to open war.
Go Viking!
Players are Vikings - adventurous freelancers willing to do the dirty work of these beings in exchange for fame and the promise of a place in one of the sanctuaries. Beware, though: these self-proclaimed gods lost their humanity long ago and have no trouble treating their agents as pawns and playthings with little regard for the cost of lives.
While Norse-inspired, this world is high technology with heavy-duty hand cannons, physical augmentation, and even runic magics to give Vikings a fighting chance to write their own Eddas.
New Ancestries
Until the First War, only humans existed. During the war, Aesir Advanced Research, Vanir Life Sciences, and Jotun Heavy Industries tried to gain an edge over the competition through genetic experimentation to create super soldiers and expendable warriors. They introduced new bioforms to the world. Humans remain the most numerous lifeforms, but it isn’t unusual to see any of the others walking the streets.

The Nine Worlds
A vicious war, known as the first war, turned a once vibrant planet into an irradiated, frozen, wasteland. Those with wealth and power fled the destruction to live in space stations high above the surface. However, despite magic and technology granting near immortality, their paradises need resources from the planet to function. Three platforms circle the earth, each accessed from a spaceport at the top of the Bifrost. These platforms are nearly perfect paradises where illness, age, and hunger no longer exist. Each platform is controlled by a mega-corporation that survived the immortal war.
When the mega corps need to strike one another, with some measure of deniability, they reach out to intrepid mortals willing to trade office serfdom for fortune and glory. Brokered contracts, through go-betweens called Crows, protect the identities of all involved. Only those courageous enough, or desperate enough, answer the crow’s call.
These are Vikings.
